Don Julio’s Latin Grill Serves Pupusas That Go Way Beyond the Basics

Don Julio’s Latin Grill & Pupusas might be one of the most underrated spots in Sonoma County. What looks like a simple Salvadoran restaurant is actually home to some of the most creative pupusas you’ll ever try.

New Flavors Every Two Weeks
One of the coolest things about Don Julio’s is their rotating pupusa flavor. Every two weeks, there’s a new one. On this visit, it was jalapeño. The chilies are cooked right into the pupusa. The cheese was perfect, the crust was crispy, and that heat from the jalapeño balanced the sweetness of the cheese perfectly.
The Jalapeño pupusa is probably one of the best I’ve ever had. These rotating flavors are on another level. Big, thick, heavy, and not as greasy as others you might have had. They hold their shape and your hands stay semi clean.
The Pupusa Burger Creation
This might be the only place you’ll ever see a pupusa burger. And yes, it’s exactly what it sounds like.
They use two crispy pupusas as the bun, and pack it with meat, guacamole, lettuce, and some kind of chipotle sauce that pulls everything together. It’s massive. Like, barely-hold-it-with-both-hands massive. There’s so much flavor going on rich, savory, spicy, creamy. If you like epic eats, this is it.

Why It’s Worth the Drive
Don Julio’s is located in Rohnert Park and people travel from Sonoma County and beyond to attend. With their ever-changing pupusa lineup and wild creations like the pupusa burger, this place is not just a restaurant, it’s a food experience.
If you love pupusas or want to try something you’ve never had before, make the trip. It’s worth it.
