In this episode I take you out to Lake Sonoma to talk about my Vlogging Setup in 2021. This has been the most requested video since I started vlogging so I am excited to be releasing it. Equipment I use to make my vlogs might surprise you due to the simplicity.
There’s so many people that want to start vlogging and don’t know where to start. Every week people DM me on Instagram and Facebook asking me what I use to vlog. Most people think that I use fancy equipment to create my vlogs but that couldn’t be further from the truth.
I love simplicity and hate overcomplicating things that’s why I keep my vlogging setup as minimal as possible. I use a GoPro 9, Mavic Air and an Iphone 11.
What about client work?
For client work at Createsburg I use a completely different setup. Client work usually entails pre-production planning, lighting, etc. I also shoot all client work RAW to give me maximum flexibility while editing. This produces a completely different look at and feel than my vlogs do.
Some Still from the Video
If you want to see the still of Premiere vs Resolve, keep scrolling down.
Editing Software
I primarily edit on DaVinci Resolve. If you are just starting out and want to make a living from of video editing/vlogging I would highly suggest that you learn Adobe Premiere Pro before learning DaVinci. There are many reasons for this but the biggest reason being that Premiere is a layer based program. If you collaborate with other professional, they will most likely be using Adobe Premiere or another layer based program.
MAC vs PC
The type of computer you use will come down to personal preference and convenience. For the past several years I have used PC because I was able to load it with RAM at an affordable rate to run Premiere.
This changed once I got and Iphone, started editing on DaVinci Resolve and the M1 chip came out. Airdrop makes it easy to share supplemental video from my phone to my Macbook Air. DaVinci Resolve runs smoothly on the Macbook Air now that they have a Resolve version made for the M1 chip. As of writing this, I have been editing my vlogs on a Macbook Air which would have been impossible 2 years ago.
Drone License & Regulations
Remember to register your drone if you have one. I will be making an entire video about this subject. I am a UAS (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) Pilot. If you are flying for profit, make sure you are licensed, the fines are not worth the risk. Licensed or not, always make sure that you’re abiding by the FAA’s rules and regulations.
