We got Snow in Sonoma County so I had to go play in it. Snow isn’t rare on the mountain tops of Northern Sonoma County. Every couple of years we get snow but you usually have to go higher to find it. This year the snow was at a pretty low elevation.
Geyers road might ring a bell if you’re not from the area and watch my vlogs. It is the same road that we took to find Mercuryville, CA in one of the Sonoma County Ghost Towns videos. If you haven’t watched that video, check it out here.
The road is frequented by people that live there and also by people that work at the Geyer’s Geothermal Plants. You might have also hear of Geyser’s Road due to its earthquake activity. It seems like there’s also earthquakes happening in the geysers area.
Why Not Pine Flat Road?
Pine Flat Road is my go to place when we get snow here. Living in Healdsburg, it is not too far away and quickly gains elevation. Unfortunately due to recent fires Pine Flat Road is at high risk for mudslides. There are also less turnouts if you need to turn around.
Some Stills from Snow in Sonoma County
Some of my favorite stills from the video.
Pine Mountain Road
Pine Mountain Road is another road that usually leads to snow. A lot of people, including myself get Pine Mountain Road and Pine Flat Road confused (including myself). Located in Sonoma County’s Northernmost town, Cloverdale, Pine Mountain Road usually gets quite a bit of snow.
When I was younger I used to frequent Pine Mountain Road until one day I was charged by a pack of wild boars.
Snow Sledding, Snow Angels, etc
There is enough snow to do just about everything besides snowboarding and skiing. This year is the year that I’ve seen snow at such low altitudes. If I could do it all over again, I would and I would make a Snowman.
